Lock rekeying in Jasper, AL
Rekeying keeps the locks you already have and changes the pins so every old key stops working. It is the usual job after a closing, a lost key, or a tenant moving out.
The previous owner, the previous tenant, the contractor, the neighbor who watered the plants. Any of them may still have a key that works tonight. Rekeying is how you end that without buying a new lock for every door. Area Locksmith Services re-pins cylinders at the house, across Jasper and the rest of the Walker County route. Call (205) 235-2476.
A rekey is not a new lock. The housing, the bolt, and the finish stay. The pins inside the plug change, and you get new keys. Old keys turn and do nothing. That is the entire point, and it is why the job is priced per cylinder instead of per "house."
When a rekey is the right job
- You closed on a house in Jasper, Cordova, Sumiton, or anywhere else on the route
- A tenant moved and returned some, not all, of the keys
- A key was lost at a store, a school, or a job site
- You want the front, back, and garage doors on one new key

When replacement is the better call
A cylinder that grinds, a bolt that stops halfway, a lock someone already drilled, or a door that was never meant to be secure. Re-pinning that hardware gives you new keys to a lock you should not trust. We will say so and quote a deadbolt instead. On very old doors, especially in Sipsey and parts of downtown Jasper, the prep may not match a modern deadbolt. That install takes longer, and the quote includes the extra time.
What the visit looks like
You tell us how many exterior keyed cylinders, whether any are smart locks, and whether you want them keyed alike. We quote the lot, trip included. On site we re-pin, test every new key in every cylinder, and hand you the extras. You do not pull the locks off and drive them anywhere. There is no walk-in shop. The work is at the door.
Business rekeys, when an employee leaves with a key, are booked as commercial locksmith work. The idea is the same. The hardware, master pins, and who is allowed to authorize it are not.
Hours are 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Central, seven days. A Sunday rekey before a Monday move-in uses the weekday rate.
Questions we answer on the phone
Is rekeying cheaper than replacing every lock?
When the hardware is healthy, yes. You pay for labor and new keys, not a new deadbolt on every door. If a cylinder is worn out or the bolt does not throw, replacement is the honest recommendation and we quote it that way.
Can all my doors work with one key?
Usually. That is called keying alike. Knobs and deadbolts of compatible keyways can be pinned to a single new key so you are not carrying a ring of leftovers from the previous owner.
How many locks should I count?
Count exterior doors, including the door from the garage into the house if it has a keyed lock. Interior privacy locks are a different conversation. The per-cylinder price depends on that exterior count.
Do you rekey rentals between tenants?
Yes. It is one of the more common commercial-residential calls we run, in Jasper and in the other five towns. The owner or manager needs to be the one authorizing the rekey.
Want the old keys to stop working?
Call (205) 235-2476 and count the exterior doors first. Rekeying is quoted per cylinder, trip included, before we schedule the van.
