Deadbolt installation in Jasper, AL
A deadbolt only works if the bolt throws fully into a solid strike. We fit new deadbolts on Jasper and Walker County doors, and we say so when the door itself needs work first.
People buy a deadbolt in a box and then meet the actual door: the bore is off, the strike is a thin plate in soft wood, the door sags, and the bolt hits the wood instead of the hole. Area Locksmith Services installs deadbolts as a finished assembly, at the house, anywhere on the Jasper route. Call (205) 235-2476.
What a proper install includes
- The correct backset, so the bolt meets the strike instead of the trim
- A strike screwed into the framing, not only into the jamb trim
- A full bolt throw, checked with the door latched
- Keys tested, and keyed alike to the other doors when you want one key
- A straight answer if the slab is too thin, too rotten, or too far out of square
Grade and brand matter less than that list. A costly deadbolt on a failed strike still opens with a kick. We will talk about hardware level in plain terms when you are choosing what to buy, or we can bring a solid single-cylinder deadbolt with us.
After a lockout or a move
Two situations create most of these installs. The lockout that revealed a deadbolt too damaged to keep, and the move-in where one door never had a real deadbolt. If the rest of the house only needs new keys, pair the install with a rekey of the cylinders you are keeping. If you are locked out right now, start with house lockout and we can add hardware on the same visit when it is a common size we carry.
Doors that need a longer quote
Double doors, sidelight glass next to a thumb turn, storm doors that block the bolt, and century-old mortise locks. Those are quotable. They are not the same price as a standard 2-1/8 inch bore on a modern slab. Tell us what the door looks like. A photo in the email, to areajasperlock@gmail.com, helps on jobs that are not urgent. Lockouts should be a phone call.
Commercial exit doors are a different product. Panic bars and storefront hardware are on the commercial locksmith page, not this one.
Questions we answer on the phone
What is the difference between a single and a double cylinder deadbolt?
A single cylinder uses a key outside and a thumb turn inside. A double cylinder uses a key on both sides, which matters on a door with glass beside the thumb turn. Double cylinders have tradeoffs for exit in an emergency. We will talk through which one belongs on that specific door.
Can you match the new deadbolt to my existing keys?
Often, yes, if the new cylinder uses a compatible keyway. We can also key the new deadbolt alike with the other exterior doors so one new key runs the house.
My door was never drilled for a deadbolt. Can you still install one?
On many doors, yes. Older houses in Sipsey and downtown Jasper sometimes have doors that were never prepped. Boring and reinforcing that door takes longer than swapping a deadbolt on a pre-drilled door, and the quote reflects the extra work.
Do you install keypad deadbolts?
Yes. A keypad or Wi-Fi deadbolt still needs a true bolt throw and a strike that is lined up. We install those as part of residential work and check the door alignment so the motor is not straining.
