Rekey locks after moving to Jasper

Buying a house in Jasper, Cordova, Sumiton, or anywhere else on this route comes with a set of keys and no history of who else has them. Rekeying changes the pins inside the cylinders you are keeping. The old keys still look like keys. They no longer open the door. Area Locksmith Services does that at the house. Count this, then call

• Front, back, and side exterior doors with a keyed lock
• A keyed garage-to-house door
• Whether any door has both a knob and a deadbolt, because those are two cylinders
• Any keypad or smart lock you plan to keep
• Doors you already do not trust: grinding cylinders, bolts that stop short, hardware that moves in the hand

The price is per cylinder. A guess of "about four doors" that forgets the deadbolts is how quotes get revised. An accurate count gets you an accurate number before we schedule.

Rekey, or replace

Rekey the locks that still throw cleanly. Replace the ones that are worn, drilled, or too light for an exterior door. A new deadbolt on the front, and a rekey of the rest onto that same key, is a common Jasper move-in. Keying alike means one new key for every exterior door you included. You stop carrying the previous owner's ring.

Rentals and the day a tenant leaves

The same job, different paperwork. The owner or the property manager authorizes the rekey. We do not change a rental's keys because a caller says the tenant is gone. Bring something that shows you control the property. Between tenants is the right day to do this, before the next lease starts.
